The Team

Kim Millar

Kim Millar is back where her career started more than 30 years ago, as the news anchor at Nightly News on Seven Tasmania.

Kim is a familiar face to Tasmanians, having read the weekend news for nearly 10 years until 2011. With decades of experience as a journalist, producer and presenter, she has played a key role in covering both local and international news events.

As a respected communications professional, Kim has worked in a variety of roles in media, marketing and communications, including writing and producing the internationally successful Big Australia TV series. Kim is on the board of Self Help Tasmania, that provides employment for people with a disability.

Upon her return to the screens of Seven Tasmania, Kim says it’s like returning to the family fold.

Louise Houbaer

Louise Houbaer has been with Tasmania’s Nightly News team since the moment she graduated from the University of Tasmania in December 2016 and has since taken up the position as the weekend anchor. She brings experience of presenting television news as a fill in over the last couple of years, and as a co-host of the Spencer Gulf News Service, which is hosted from SCA’s news hub based in Hobart.

With a love of telling untold stories within the community, Louise has a passion to drive awareness for issues not yet in the spotlight. She thrives on human interest, and breaking news situations, having been involved in many live cross situations for emergency and unfolding events.

Working in the news was inevitable for Louise. Journalism is in her blood with both her parents working in the profession. She is passionate about the medium of live television and says she feels privileged to be stepping in behind the desk to deliver the news, live, and that it is a responsibility she doesn’t take lightly. Louise is very excited to step into the shoes of those who have presented Tasmania’s most watched news before her.

Peter Murphy

Peter Murphy ‘Murph’ is Tasmania’s most versatile Weatherman after anchoring the news for ten weeks. He has been at TNT9, Tas TV and Southern Cross Austereo since 1984. Murph moved to Tasmania in 1982 to work at Radio 7EX which is when he started voice-over work for commercials and program promotions at the TV station.

Since that time he has helped promote most, if not all of the state’s major events and charities via the weather segment during the Nightly News. During the day he works in the world of Superannuation before joining the news team each night to present, what he feels is the most important part of the news.

As Murph says: “It’s a big job, a huge responsibility and one that all the viewers know I take very seriously.”

Tom Johnson

Tom Johnson joined Tasmania’s Nightly News team in 2016, after starting his career as a reporter in Broken Hill. He now anchors the show’s sport segment, in addition to reporting in the field and, at times, producing the bulletin. Tom’s enthusiasm for local sport was recognised when he received a Tasmanian Media Award for Sports Coverage in 2020, following his reports on the challenges facing regional football in the state’s North West.

Along with his broad coverage of mainstream sport, Tom is keen to promote Tasmania’s wider sporting landscape by covering everything from motocross and cycling to table tennis and snooker. He understands the value of sport in local communities, having been a part of football, cricket and tennis clubs throughout his life.

Tom has presented the sport’s bulletin live from AFL matches, the Big Bash, and even Penstock Lagoon during the World Fly Fishing Championships! He says it is a privilege to present sport to the state and drives him to provide the most extensive coverage.
